Dear friends and family,
We are delighted to invite you to celebrate a special day in our family's life - Izzy's Bat Mitzvah!

Here's what we have planned for this memorable day:
Services:
All services will be at Temple Beth Or located at 5315 Creedmoor Rd in Raleigh, North Carolina. On Friday night Izzy will have a small role in the service. This is completely optional to attend.
The big event is on Saturday, where Izzy will have a starring role in services, which includes leading prayers, reading a Torah portion in Hebrew, and a short teaching in English. We would love for you to arrive by 10:15 AM for the service, which will start at 10:30.
Kiddish:
Following the service, we invite you to join us for a kiddish at the temple, which will be a wonderful opportunity to mingle, enjoy some light refreshments, and celebrate Izzy’s special day.
Celebration:
Later in the evening, we'll gather to celebrate Izzy's big day at Clouds Brewing Taproom, located at 1233 Front St, Raleigh. The party will be in full swing from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Come ready to eat, dance, and share in our joy! (Summer party attire is appropriate)

In case you've never been to a Bat Mitzvah...
Becoming a Bat Mitzvah at age 13 is a key milestone in Judaism. It marks Izzy's spiritual maturity, her commitment to the Torah's commandments (mitzvot), and her responsibility to contribute to repairing the world (tikkun olam).
At the Saturday morning service, Izzy will lead prayers, read from the Torah in Hebrew, and share a brief teaching of her Torah portion. You'll be able to follow along using the prayer books in the seats (they open left to right). You'll notice standing and sitting at intervals - this is a sign of respect, not necessarily religious belief, so feel free to follow along. Bowing, another part of the ceremony, has religious significance, and participation is entirely optional.
Dress in attire appropriate for church or a formal gathering. As you enter the Synagogue there will be Kippahs available for men to wear during the service. Wearing a Kippah is simply a sign of respect and does not bear religious implication. That being said, it is completely up to you if you would like to wear it or not.

Izzy's Mitzvah Project
A Mitzvah project is an act of service and goodwill chosen by the celebrant. This project, embodying the Jewish values of tikkun olam (repairing the world) and gemilut hasadim (acts of loving-kindness), allows the young person to make a positive impact on their community or a chosen cause, thus expressing their commitment to Jewish values and responsibilities as they transition to adulthood.
In Izzy's Torah portion, much of the message is focused on doing good deeds for others--including giving of our first fruits to others. Over 7 million people in North Carolina go hungry, and 1 in 6 children are at risk of going hungry.
For her Mitzvah project, Izzy is raising money for the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, a non-profit organization that has been helping to feed people in central North Carolina for over 30 years. Her goal is to raise $1,000 dollars She want to host this virtual drive to contribute to my community and my mitzvah.
